When we first started Off the Record, we knew we loved vinyl. What we didn't really know was how much we were going to enjoy getting out there, setting up our tables, digging through crates, and meeting so many different people.
Every pop-up has been a little different, and honestly, that's probably been one of our favorite parts.
You never know who's going to walk up or what they're going to be looking for.
We've had people come straight for the rock records. Someone else is digging through the R&B. Then someone finds a country album they haven't seen in years. We've had people looking for 80s and 90s music, jazz, funk, soundtracks, hip-hop…you name it.
And that's something we didn't really expect.
We thought people would have their favorite genre and pretty much stick to it. But we've learned that vinyl people are all over the place—and we love that.
One minute you're talking about Pink Floyd and the next you're talking about Prince, George Strait, The Temptations or some random soundtrack someone has been searching for forever. 😂
That's the fun part about having a bunch of different genres in the crates. You never really know what you're going to find.
We've also really enjoyed the people we've met along the way.
Some people come up just to look. Some stop and tell us about the records they grew up listening to. Some are serious collectors. Some are just getting started. And some say they're "just looking" and then walk away with a stack of records. 😂
We get it.
We've also learned a lot from the people we meet. We've gotten recommendations, heard stories, discovered albums we hadn't thought about, and learned what people are actually looking for.
And that's probably been one of the biggest surprises for us.
We're not just learning how to sell records.
We're learning what people love.
So we're going to keep bringing the crates, keep adding different genres, keep digging for those good finds, and most importantly, keep meeting new people.
Because that's what makes doing this so much fun.
